Alkaline Wash

The DANNÉ Montague-King Alkaline Wash system is a remarkable treatment designed to reduce fine, downy hair. This type of hair is very difficult to removes the hair growth is usually dense and would take a long time to treat with electrolysis and is also not suitable to be treated with IPL or Laser.

This treatment is currently available at Brighton Laser Clinic and Hove Skin Clinic, and will also be available at Worthing Skin Clinic.

What are the benefits of Alkaline Wash?

The advantage of Alkaline Wash is that you can remove large areas of hair in one treatment with no discomfort as with other hair-removal systems. It also works well when combined with electrolysis and laser, which are suitable for the stronger hairs.

What happens during treatment?

After the first treatment, the hair will often grow back at its usual rate. However after multiple treatments the regrowth rate will become longer and this causes permanent hair loss over a period of time.

The alkaline powder is mixed into a paste and then applied to the area being treated for 4-5 minutes. The underlying hair follicle dissolves which causes the release of the hair and allows the skin to be hair free immediately after treatment.

The treatment takes approximately half an hour and a patch test is carried out on the area to be treated, which ensures that your skin is suitable for the Alkaline Wash treatment.

What areas of the body can be treated?

All areas of the face and body may be treated as long as the hair is fine and downy. The treatments will be approximately 2 weeks apart to start with and then go onto a month apart and then longer periods of time as the hair starts to reduce in growth.

A full consultation and patch test will be carried out at least 24 hours before treatment. You must inform your therapist if you become pregnant or if you take any medication or vitamins in-between treatments.

Treatment is usually performed on facial areas and the cost for self-funding patients depends on the amount of hair present and sessions needed. Areas on the body can also be treated, but this depends on the location of the hair. A typical course of treatment consists of 8-10 treatment sessions. Are there any side effects?

The treatment is completely painless, however in some cases the treated area can appear red and warm which is normal and this will fade after a short period of time.

There is no evidence to suggest that Alkaline Wash causes the stimulation of hair growth in dormant follicles, as evident in waxing.
